Description

The short-lived and unrecognised “Republic of Mirdita” was declared in northern Albania in 1921, and produced its own stamps inscribed “Vetëkeverria e Mirditiës” (roughly “Self-Government of Mirdita”).

Copies of the previous 1 frank stamp with a handstamped “25 QINT” overprint do exist, but this example – with the “overprint” printed as part of the design – is believed to be a contemporaneous forgery. As a forgery of a bogus stamp, you might consider this a “double Cinderella”!

The stamp is unused, but without gum.
