About State of Oman

Not to be confused with stamps from the “Sultanate of Oman” – which is a real country, with UPU-recognised stamp issues – labels inscribed “State of Oman” are fantasy or bogus issues, and therefore Cinderellas, with a similar backstory to those produced for Dhufar.

The complicated political picture in Oman at the start of the 1970s – as explained in an excellent article by the Oman Philatelic Network – provides a plausible context for a genuine postal use. However, the reality is that State of Oman stamps – like those of Dhufar, as well as EynhallowNagaland and Staffa, among others – were the work of controversial English stamp dealer Clive Feigenbaum.
