Description

Se-tenant pair of Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway 1981 definitives, comprising one stamp inscribed in English (20p, top) and one in Welsh (20c, bottom).

These stamps were printed in sheets of 12 (four rows of three), with the top two rows featuring the English stamp and the bottom two rows the Welsh. Hence, only three se-tenant pairs existed per sheet, which is why they are harder to find and more valuable than the two stamps individually.

U/M / Unmounted Mint / MNH / Mint Never Hinged.

About the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway

The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway is a 8.5-mile narrow gauge heritage railway linking the town of Welshpool with the village of Llanfair Caereinion. Following closure by British Railways in 1956, the line was reopened in stages as a heritage railway between 1963 and 1981.

Stamps for the railway letter service were first issued in 1975, with further releases generally appearing every two or three years until the final issue in 2003.
