About British Rail

The British Rail Letter Service ran until June 1984, with stamps for that purpose issued by British Rail in 1980 and 1981. After 1984, the service continued on some special occasions, including the 150th anniversary of the Great Western Railway in 1985, for which a further miniature sheet was issued.

Various other labels bearing the British Rail logo, and issued in the 1970s and 1980s, were privately produced for covers that British Rail was then paid to carry.
