About St Kilda
St Kilda is a real archipelago, located in the North Atlantic Ocean, and owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Issues seemingly sanctioned by NTS - and featuring the organisation's name and logo - were released between 1968 and 1984, and are by far the most commonly seen St Kilda locals. A range of other labels and fantasy issues bearing St Kilda's name have been produced, by various individuals, since then, including a 2024 issue by Darin Jackson (the creator of Puffin Island and Goat Island stamps).
Given that the islands have had no permanent population since 1930, labels inscribed ‘St Kilda’ are believed to have been issued primarily for collectors rather than for postal use.
As privately produced issues, stamps of St Kilda – like those of other islands off the coast of Britain – are considered to be Cinderellas, but remain interesting and collectable in their own right.
