Description

£1 stamp, issued in 2020, depicting Llanddwyn Island’s Tŵr Bach (“little tower”) Lighthouse in a design by Wendy Powell-Jones.

Though inscribed “Ynys Môn” (the Welsh-language name for Anglesey), the creators of this stamp deem it to be a Llanddwyn Island issue. The stamp also bears the imprint “2019”, but was actually issued on 25 January 2020.

U/M / Unmounted Mint / MNH / Mint Never Hinged.

About Llanddwyn Island

Llanddwyn Island (Ynys Llanddwyn) is a small tidal island, approximately one mile long by half a mile wide, just off Anglesey’s west coast.

Stamps bearing its name are the creation of Martin Husband, of Anglesey Stamps, whose own base in Bodorgan is not far from the island.

One or two Llanddwyn issues have appeared each year since 2015. They are essentially fantasy stamps, with no postal function, but do a good job of capturing and celebrating the island's "magical" quality.
