About Grunay

Grunay is a 55-acre uninhabited island in the east of Shetland, forming part of the Out Skerries archipelago.

More than 400 different stamps bearing the island's name appeared between 1981 and 1986, with the subject matters rarely bearing any obvious relation to the island!

Many of the issues feature a Philatelic Leasing Ltd imprint, which suggests that they are the work of the well-known businessman Clive Feigenbaum, who produced labels for a multitude of Scottish and other islands during the 70s, 80s and 90s.

As ever, Grunay's lack of residents indicates that the island's stamp are purely fantasy issues, rather than ones with any local postal function.
