About Coquet Island
Located just off the coast of Northumberland near Amble, what Coquet Island lacks in size (covering just 15 acres) it makes up for in wildlife, with around 40,000 seabirds – including puffins – calling the island home.
Given that Coquet Island is an RSPB-managed seabird sanctuary, no public visits are allowed, which obviously negates the need for any local postal service! Coquet Island's stamps are therefore private, fantasy issues, produced in quantities of just a few hundred by Devon-based “philatelist and islands enthusiast” Kevin Lynch, with the first label - now sold out - appearing in 2012.
Further single stamps were issued in 2016, 2017, and most recently 2022, all depicting the island’s famous lighthouse as viewed from the local Puffin Cruises tour boat.
