Based in County Antrim, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland was founded in 1964, with the aim of preserving Irish steam locomotives, carriages and rolling stock, and operating them across the Irish railway network.

It produced its own railway letter stamps, variously denominated in British pounds or Irish pounds, between 1981 and 1993.
