Our own cinderellas

Since 1995, Graham Land Stamps - as a fan of cinderella issues - has produced many different 'Graham Land' labels to adorn the packages that we send out to our customers. Where used, these have normally been cancelled with our own 'Graham Land' postmark.

Early Graham Land issues were produced on an ad hoc basis, in irregular quantities, and no complete record of the labels produced has been retained. Some examples of the labels produced are shown below, with many of them featuring original artwork.

We have occasionally produced labels for other 'territories', including a small number that bore the name 'Īles Chausey' (the French-administered Chausey Islands in the English Channel) and - reflecting our interest in the former Soviet republics - a single label for Kamchatskaya Oblast (below).

The Chausey labels that were produced included a 1994 '1Fr50' multicoloured label featuring a gull, cliff and stacks; a 1995 '2Fr' label, in blue and red, with a map showing the location of the islands; and a se-tenant pair of '50c' labels in 1996, featuring seagulls and labelled in English ('Gull') and French ('Mouette') respectively.

To mark the launch of our new website, our latest label was issued on 6 February 2009. This issue has the distinction of being the first self-adhesive Graham Land issue and the first to be professionally printed, and has an initial print run of 280.

The label features the local landmark of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, using an original photograph and design by Graham Soult. The issue is imperforate, but features mock perforations to both the Millennium Bridge label itself and the 'se-tenant' address label.

It is anticipated that future releases will feature other scenes from North East England, though the next issue is not expected before 2010.

Any orders sent from Graham Land Stamps will feature a Millennium Bridge label on the reverse of the envelope, cancelled with our postmark. If you would like an unused example, let us know when you order and we will happily enclose one for you.
